Amazon.com Inc., the global e-commerce giant, announced on Monday a substantial investment of up to $4 billion in the high-profile startup Anthropic, an emerging player in the field of artificial intelligence and a potential rival to ChatGPT developer OpenAI.
As part of this investment, the American multinational technology company will secure a minority ownership stake in Anthropic.
Anthropic, a company established approximately two years ago by former executives from OpenAI, has recently launched its latest innovation, Claude 2, an advanced AI chatbot. This development signifies a competitive edge for Anthropic as it enters the AI sector.
In a joint statement, both companies revealed their plans to forge a close partnership aimed at advancing generative AI technologies.
One of the key aspects of this collaboration is Anthropic’s selection of Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its primary cloud infrastructure provider.
Anthropic said it will provide AWS customers exclusive access to cutting-edge features designed to customize and fine-tune AI models under this agreement.
