Dollar General Corporation, an American chain of variety stores headquartered in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, commemorated the inauguration of its state-of-the-art distribution center in Blair, Nebraska the previous day, on August 19. The grand opening event, attended by employees, officials, and community representatives, underscored the company’s dedication to the local area. As a demonstration of this commitment, the prominent player in the retail industry presented a generous donation to the Washington County Food Pantry at Joseph’s Coat.
This pioneering distribution center represents a remarkable $140 million investment in Washington County, marking the company’s endeavor into a dual-facility concept that incorporates the efficiencies of conventional and DG Fresh supply chain functionalities. With an impressive expanse of approximately one million square feet, the facility is anticipated to generate over 400 new career opportunities while supporting more than 1,000 DG stores at full operational capacity.
“Today’s celebration not only marks another growth milestone for our global supply chain teams, but also reflects our continued investments in Nebraska,” said Dollar General’s Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Owen.
Governor Jim Pillen of Nebraska praised Dollar General’s strategic choice of location, emphasizing the region’s suitability for nurturing corporate growth and efficient distribution networks.
“Nebraska’s hard-working people, central location, and quality roads make our state a great hub for companies moving their products across America,” he acknowledged.
This groundbreaking facility aligns with Dollar General’s commitment to community development, a sentiment echoed by Jenny Eriksen, President of the Washington County Economic Development Board. Eriksen warmly welcomed Dollar General’s investment, highlighting its alignment with the region’s values.
“Dollar General’s commitment to community is a perfect fit for this region and Washington County,” she remarked.

By merging conventional processes with innovative DG Fresh operations, this novel dual-functionality model maximizes efficiency and accuracy, streamlining the distribution process. This not only enhances Dollar General’s internal operations but also establishes a new industry standard for redefining distribution practices in the retail sector.
As previously mentioned, Dollar General consistently embodies its mission of community service through accessible products and opportunities. The company has gradually been enabling itself to stand as a transformational trailblazer, with its influence exemplified by the $140 million investment in the Blair distribution center, a testament to its commitment to excellence and community growth.
