Elon Musk, CEO of Twitter, tweeted on Saturday that the social media platform currently employs nearly 2300 employees across various roles and levels. This statement was in response to a report by CNBC that stated that Twitter had cut its full-time employee headcount to 1300 employees, with less than 550 of them being engineers.
CNBC’s report also stated that 75 of the 1300 employees were on leave, including 40 full-time engineers. In his tweet, Musk stated that the information provided by CNBC is incorrect and that there are nearly 2300 active working employees on the platform. He also mentioned that several hundred employees at Twitter work on trust and safety and that there are also a large number of contractors.
Musk has been under attack in recent months after he purchased a majority stake in Twitter and made it a private company. News reports have been published stating that things are not going smoothly at Twitter, such as the company not paying rent for its headquarters and potentially facing eviction.
In response to these reports, Musk has taken to Twitter to clarify his position and the operations of the company. In October 2022, he acquired Twitter after months of instability and controversies. After becoming the owner, he sacked the top management of the company, including CEO Parag Agrawal.
As CEO, he has made several changes to the workings of the organization, such as monetizing the verification blue tick mark, restructuring the board of directors, and searching for new ways to monetize the platform. The company also decided to cut its workforce by nearly 50 percent as part of cost-cutting measures due to declines in advertisement revenues.
